Music + Motion Program
Mercury Baroque believes that all children should have the opportunity to experience the many benefits that music brings to one’s life. Numerous studies have shown that children who participate in musical activities are better students, better thinkers, and better citizens, more completely equipped to deal with the challenges of today’s world.
The Music + Motion program, created by Ana Treviño-Godfrey, is designed to help children sing in tune, play percussion instruments in rhythm, and improve their concentration skills by listening to masterpieces from the Baroque era. Half-hour classes are held weekly for a period of ten weeks per semester, taught by Ms. Godfrey and other trained music professionals.
Mercury Baroque works with local school districts and other education providers to make Music + Motion a program that will expose students to classical music in a meaningful, age-appropriate, and accessible fashion. By doing this, we create the audiences, patrons, and musicians of the future.
At many of the schools where Mercury Baroque presents Music + Motion, there are limited or no funds available for music education. If you would like to help make Music + Motion available to students who otherwise would not have the chance to participate in music classes, please call 713-533-0080 to discuss sponsorship opportunities which are available.
